Stamps and Coins Fest-2014 at Guntur : 5th - 7th September 2014
The Guntur Numismatic and Philatelic Society, is organising 'Stamps and Coins Fest-2014', a State level competitive exhibition of stamps, coins and currency notes from 5th to 7th September 2014 at Balaji Mandapam on the premises of Sri Venkateswaraswamy Devalayam, Brundavan Gardens, Guntur to mark the 20th anniversary of the society.
Inter school quiz, letter writing, drawing and elocution competitions, competitive exhibition for beginners in juniors and seniors category, exhibition of rare stamps, coins and currency notes and release of special covers on Telugu literature and culture, and workshops on philately and numismatics has been planned during the event.
The last date for submitting entries is 30th August 2014.

PM sets up Committee to identify obsolete laws within three months
Prime Minister has approved the constitution of a Committee to carry out a review to identify obsolete laws.
The newly-constituted Committee will examine all Acts recommended to be repealed by the Committee on Review of Administrative Laws, which had been appointed by the Union Government of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in 1998. The Prime Minister has expressed concern that out of the 1382 Acts recommended for repeal by that Committee, only 415 have been repealed so far. He has called for a focused and result-oriented exercise to systematically weed out archaic laws and rules. The Committee will also examine Acts and Rules which may have become obsolete within the last ten to fifteen years.
The Committee will be chaired by Shri R. Ramanujam, Secretary PMO. Shri V.K. Bhasin, former Secretary, Legislative Department, will be its other member. The Committee will submit its report within three months, so that a comprehensive Bill can be introduced in the Winter Session of Parliament, based on its recommendations.

S.B Aptitude Test to be held on 28.09.2014
Circle office, Hyderabad has announced vide CO letter no RE/8-3/SBAPT/2014 dated 25.08.2014 that the S.B Aptitude test on the pattern of Incentive Bonus Examination for the entire AP Circle will be held on 28.09.2014(Sunday).
The last date for receipt of applications by the Divisional Heads is fixed as 15.09.2014.
CAT Case on Upgradation of GP of Inspector Posts - Update
OA No.289/13 filed by the IP/ASP Association came up for hearing before the Hon'ble CAT Ernakulam Bench on 20/8/2014. Department has filed additional reply to the rejoinder filed by IP/ASP Association. The Hon'ble Tribunal after taking the additional reply on record has posted the case to 29/9/2014 for final hearing.

Employees Provident Fund -Interest @ 8.75% for 2014-15
Retirement fund body EPFO's trustees on Tuesday decided to retain interest payment on provident fund deposits for 2014-15 at 8.75 per cent.
"It has been decided to pay 8.75 per cent interest in the current fiscal," Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) K K Jalan told PTI after the meeting of the Central Board of Trustees (CBT), the apex decision making body of the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). The EPFO had provided 8.75 per cent rate of interest on PF deposits for 2013-14, which was higher than 8.5 per cent paid for the previous fiscal.

My Stamps new designs launched
India Post has launched 'My Stamp' at Indipex-2011, World Philatelic Exhibition on 12th February 2011. 17 different sheets were made available during the launch of 'My Stamps' having designs/themes of 12 diff. Sun signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Aquarius, Pisces, Cancer and Capricorn) Taj Mahal, Jungle lore (Wildlife: Indian lion, Indian elephant, Tiger, Rhino), Tales of Panchatantra (The lion and the rabit, The monkey and the crocodile, The crow and the snake and The tortoise and the geese, Full steam ahead (Locomotives: WP/1, 1963, WDM2, 1963, GIP No. 1, 1853 and F/1, 1895) and Flying high (Aeroplanes: LCA - Tejas, Dhruv and HT-2).
In the second phase four new designs on Flower theme (Lily, Dahlia, Cineraria and Pansy) were launched on 19th October, 2012.
As per the Directorate OM No. 17-5/2013-Phil, dated 22nd July 2014, 10 new themes of My Stamps have been launched, viz. Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Taj Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Mysore Palace, Fairy Queen, Port Blair Island, Ajanta Caves, St. Francis Church and Greetings.
These new themes are based on local tourist attraction places. Therefor the distribution of the same has been prepared in view of the location of the above places, except Taj Mahal, Fairy Queen and Greetings which are distributed to all postal circles, rest of the themes are circulated only to the concerned circle headquarters. However My Stamp Counters and philatelic bureaux of the circles other than the philatelic bureau situated at circle headquarter can place their demand of My Stamp sheetlets to the philatelic bureau situated at circle headquarters.

Expected DA increase from July 2014 is 7%
With the announcement of the AICPI(IW) points for the month of June, the calculation of the additional dearness allowance for central government employees and pensioners from July onwards have ended. The percentage of Dearness allowance and Dearness relief to be paid from July 2014 will be increased by 7%.
